Maria Androutsou studied with a scholarship at the Department of Physics of the University of Athens and completed her Postgraduate Studies at the Department of Applied Statistics of the Athens University of Economics and Business in 2005.
She worked for 10 years as a professor of Physics and from 1995 she worked at Emporiki Bank.
She was actively involved in the parenting movement with Parents and Guardians associations, while she was elected municipal councilor in 2002 and 2006 before running for mayor.
In the municipal elections of 2010, she became the leader of the association CHANGE THE CITY and was elected Mayor of Agios Dimitrios. In 2014 she is re-elected for the period 2014-2019. While from 2019 until today she is going through her third term as Mayor.
She is a member of the Board of the Regional Union of Attica Municipalities (PEDA) and a member of the Equality Committee of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE).
She was a member of the KEDE delegation to the Political Committee of the Council of Municipalities and Regions of Europe (CEMR), while today he is an alternate member of the Greek delegation of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
Also, since June 2021, she is the Chairman of the Political Committee of the Network for Sustainable Mobility CIVINET Greece – Cyprus.
The issues of gender equality, sustainable urban development and local democracy are always in her priorities and with these as principles she exercises, with her associates, the administration of the city of Agios Dimitrios
